Our Caregivers – the Heart of Visiting Angels

At Visiting Angels, character matters! We have over 150 caregivers on staff and continually recruit compassionate and experienced caregivers, most of whom are Home Health Aides or Certified Nursing Assistants. All go through a rigid and thorough screening process that requires at least six references, nation-wide county-by-county criminal background and motor vehicle records checks, and research-based personality and competency assessments. An applicant must also have at least one year of experience working with the elderly. Our goal is to hire only the cream of the crop of caregivers.

The final step in the hiring process is when our office staff agrees that we would hire the applicant to care for our own parents.

Before any caregiver works with a client who has any form of dementia, they receive specialized training in working with individuals who have memory loss. Individuals with Alzheimer’s, Lewy Body Disease, or any other form of dementia deserve specialized care and understanding, which is why we provide Special Memory Care Training for all caregivers before they are placed with a client who has dementia.

Our Calling, Our Passion

Ron Hagberg and Susan Green are siblings who grew up working at Colonial Acres, the nursing home their father founded, in Golden Valley, MN.  It was there that they developed an appreciation for the responsibility and privilege of providing quality care for seniors. However, their own family’s experience with their mother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s fueled their passion for wanting to help other families in similar situations.

Ron, Susan, and Carol Hagberg  have each passed the rigorous course of training to become Certified Senior Advisors (CSA’s). And, although he doesn’t sell insurance, Ron also became a licensed Health and Life Insurance agent so he could speak intelligently to families about the unique features and benefits of Long Term Care Insurance.
