Practical advice from our nurses

Short guides on the situations families ask us about most. Print them, share them, and call us if you want to talk any of them through.

Making the home fall-safe

Most falls happen in the bathroom and on the way to it at night. Add grab bars and a night light, remove loose rugs, and keep a phone within reach of the bed. We do free home safety walk-throughs.

Keeping medications straight

Keep one current list of every medication, including vitamins, and bring it to every appointment. A weekly organizer filled by a nurse or family member prevents most mistakes.

Signs of caregiver burnout

Trouble sleeping, short temper, skipping your own appointments, and feeling like nothing is ever enough. These are signals to ask for help, not failures. Respite care exists for exactly this.

The first week home from the hospital

Read the discharge papers twice, set up medications before the first dose is due, book the follow-up visit right away, and watch for fever, new confusion, or swelling.

Talking with a parent about accepting help

Start early, start small, and frame help as a way to stay home longer. Let them choose the caregiver and the schedule wherever possible.

When it is an emergency

Chest pain, trouble breathing, sudden weakness on one side, slurred speech, or a fall with a head injury: call 911 first. Then call us and we will coordinate what comes next.

Let's talk about the care you need

A free in-home assessment is the easiest first step. A nurse visits, listens, and builds a plan around your family. No cost, no pressure.
